This amulet is made of forged brass. Brass is a metal that possesses a high degree of resonance and has been primarily considered a voice, such as the voice of a canon or a bell, both of which are powerful. Brass was a sacred metal that was used to make instruments of worship from antiquity to Buddhism and Christianity. This strong metal was the symbol of incorruptibility and immortality as well as unswerving justice.
One side of the amulet is inspired by the characteristics of a ‘microphone’ or ‘speaker and it contains 19 holes representing the year. In numerology the number 19 represents the sun and everything that is grand or marvelous is associated with the sun. The number 19 represents an individual’s rebirth and the dawning of a new day. The number is also associated with honor and success and is full of joy and happiness.
This little ‘ microphone’ or ‘speaker’ contains one stone creating the sound of a bell. Representing the symbolic qualities of the bell, each amulet has its own unique tone created by the shape of each stone and its container. The bell has been metaphorically considered an echo of a primordial vibration, the symbol of celestial voices, the music of royalty and the standard of universal harmony. The bell represents the communication between the earth and sky and is the symbol of wisdom instead of the law. The bell is considered the voice of the divine protector that invokes celebration and awakens the soul.
The stones that give each amulet their particular voices were collected in Chavón | The School of Design in front of the Fine Arts classroom along the paths that the students walk every day throughout their two years in the school. The stones not only represent the connection with Chavón, but also each individual’s path or direction. As an archetype, the stone represents, strength, stability and wisdom. The raw stone, that in many ancient traditions also symbolizes freedom, preserves its unique natural form representing individuality. Minerals in general are receptors, carriers and transmitters of energy. These stones carry the energy of this special place and are charged with the tenacity of the footsteps of every individual who has walked these paths.
